Butterfly #1 – First Light in Flight

I had to do a production series of work so I chose butterflies. Here is the first one of ten. By the end of the week I was ready to be done. 16x20 oil on canvas, original.

A delicate butterfly rests in a lush, dreamlike garden, its wings glowing in soft shades of violet, blush, and lavender. Surrounded by fluid greens and hints of golden light, the scene captures a fleeting moment of stillness before movement – a quiet breath before flight.

This painting explores themes of transformation, renewal, and gentle emergence. The loose, expressive background contrasts with the intricate wing patterns, symbolizing the balance between structure and freedom, form and feeling.
