I have always loved seeing the white heron flying in the bright blue sky. I discovered I had a photo that I'd taken and used it for the source for this 22x30 oil painting. 

Where Light Takes Wing captures a quiet, luminous moment along the coast as a heron rises effortlessly above the sea. Painted in oil and mixed media on watercolor paper, the composition balances movement and stillness – the bird’s outstretched wings glowing against a soft sky, while the deep blues of the ocean below ground the scene in calm and reflection.

The foreground meadow, dotted with sunlit white flowers, invites the viewer into the landscape, creating a sense of presence and gentle transition from land to water to sky. Expressive brushwork and layered textures bring life to the piece, emphasizing both the freedom of flight and peaceful rhythm of the shoreline.
